5/15/99 to 5/19/99. We flew to Calgary and drove 86 miles to
Banff National Park. The Canadian Rockies are grand, perhaps even
more so than the American Rockies. The Canadian Rockies have
glaciers, which the American parts further south do not have.
But wait, Yellowstone's wonders make up for that deficiency :)
Banff Springs Hotel, nicknamed the Castle, with the Rockies
towering behind.

Tour of the Columbia Icefield required a ride aboard this ice
trekker with humongous wheels. Walking on the glacier is not all
that
slippery as one might guess.

We had a nice relaxing soak in the Banff Upper Springs, nestled in
the Sulphur Mountains.

Peifang poses with a moose nearby.

Rimrock, where we stayed, was built into the mountains.

Our visit to Lake Louise netted us this picture of Chateau Lake
Louise, because the most of the lake was still frozen due to the
extra cold winter. We did see other lakes and waters with the
emerald color. Suspended rock flower in
meltwater from a glacier gives the waters a distinctive color.

We found a good example of the emerald waters at the bottom of a water
fall on the Johnston Trail in Banff National Park.
