Itinerary
Day 1 Ft Lauderdale, Florida:
Known as the "Venice of
America," Fort Lauderdale has 165 miles of canals that wind
through this waterfront city. With plenty of sun and sand, you'll
find the beaches inviting and only minutes from elegant shops and
championship golf courses. After dark, the town offers many
five-star restaurants and exciting nightclubs, all set in a lush
tropical environment.
Day 2
and 3, At sea.
Day 4
Puerto Limon, Costa Rica:
Located on Costa Rica's Caribbean
shores, Puerto Limon is one of the nation's largest cities.
Columbus stumbled upon the city in 1502, during his final voyage
of discovery. Spanish explores who followed mistakenly declared
this land to be the "rich coast"; houwever, little gold was found.
Today, the city's riches come in the form of banamas, shipped from
Limon to destinations around the world.
Day 5
Panama Canal, Panama:
The Panama Canal was completed in 1914
under the administration of Teddy Roosevelt at a cost of $533
million, requiring 35,000 men and 10 years to build. An
engineering marvel, no pumps are used in filling or emptying the
locks or "steps" that rise and fall between the two mighty oceans
on either side. The Canal saves 13,000 miles of ocean travel
around the tip of South America for vessels that traverse the 51.7
mile course. It takes 58 million gallons of water for a single
ship to descend the 85 feet from the Pacific to the Atlantic, and
takes a mere 8 hours.
Day 6,
At Sea.
Day 7
Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands:
Discovered by Columbus in 1503,
these islands are a popular resort and British Crown Colony that
still provides travelers with unspoiled beauty. As a destination
known for its superb diving opportunies, the Caymans are home to
unforgettable shipwrecks, brilliantly colored fish and
Caribbean-clear water.
Day
8 Cozumel, Yucatan, Mexico:
The crystal clear water
surrounding Cozumel makes it a favorite for divers and sun-seekers
from around the world. Found on the Yucatan peninsula, it is the
largest of Mexico's islands and steeped in history, tracing Mayan
descendants from 300 A.D. In town, there is shopping for local
crafts and dining in colorful restaurants.
Day 9
Belize:
Formerly a British colony, the
independent country of Belize has a rich history that dates back
more than a thousand years. You may wish to explore the massive
pyramids and temples at the ancient Mayan sites of Xunantunich or
Altun-Ha. Pristine beaches and the second longest barrier reef in
the world provide ample opportunity for swimming, snorkeling and
diving. Combined with over 500 species of exotic birds, 250
varieties of orchids and more than 600 archeological sites, Belize
is a paradise.
